Debenhams UK have just launched a campaign to #savetheteapot on twitter. Twinings, typhoo and Tetley are backing the campaign offering free gifts to those who tweet support and even the BBC is reporting it.
Etiquette expert Liz Brewer said:
“Tea is the most quintessential of English drinks, and the act of tea-drinking has long been one of the greatest British traditions. We must preserve the custom which, for centuries, has been the hallmark of polite society — tea served in a teapot before being poured into china cups.”
Crumb are asking you all to get behind the campaign buy tweeting this post or #savetheteapot. While you’re at it, why not dust off your favourite teapot or treat yourself to a lovely new one! Here is a selection of our favourite teapots out there (all linked to their sellers websites), why not buy one ready for the next time you host an afternoon tea party at home

The Cakes: Crumb. work closely with one of the finest bakeries in the region, who hand make all of their products to the highest possible standard. The cakes all have a very homemade feel to them and taste as if they were baked by you personally, making them perfect for an afternoon tea party. The cakes that fill crumb. boxes are quite simply exquisite and delicious.
The Teas: There are a range of teas available for crumb. boxes. These include some more traditional teas, such as Afternoon and Earl Grey, and some more contemporary ones, such as Blackberry and Elderflower. All of the teas are sourced from Taylors of Harrogate, one of the few remaining independent tea merchants in the United Kingdom. The teas were chosen for their fine quality, having been sourced from the very best gardens and estates around the world.
The story: crumb. was founded in 2011, by Vicky and Helen, two Leeds based new mothers. They found themselves in a whole new world, and quickly began discussing a convenient way for new mothers, who are both time poor and prone to cake eating, to enjoy a proper afternoon tea party. Very quickly, discussing turned into researching and product designing, and crumb. was born. Importantly, Helen knows good cake. From 2006-2011 Helen ran a successful cup cake business, supplying the finest delicatessens and coffee shops in and around Leeds with a unique range of cup cakes. The longest running customer of the company was Salvo’s Salumeria in Headingley, voted the best Italian deli in the north of England by the F Word in November 2009.
The future: The brilliant creative team at crumb. are working on a range of other boxes. At the research and development stage at the moment are: The After Dinner Party Box, The Birthday Tea Party Box, and The Coffee Morning Box. As with The Afternoon Tea Party Box, these boxes will be filled with the finest, most elegant and delicious fare.
So this is what the afternoon tea party box looks like. It fits in everything you can see in the image below, well almost everything – if you could fit the crockery through a letterbox we would send you that too…. but we’re still working on some fundamental laws of physics to make that happen;-) Can you believe…… 4 slices of rocky road, 4 slices of yogurt and cranberry tiffin, 4 slices of strawberry shortbread, 4 slices of luxury seeded nut granola, 4 slices of rocky road, 4 slices of caramel shortbread, 12 individual sachet tea bags (2 earl grey, 2 delicate green tea, 2 afternoon darjeeling, 2 blackberry and vanilla, 2 lemon and orange, 2 yorkshire gold) 5 cake topper decorative flags, 6 petite doilies and 6 entree napkins…..breathe…… all fit in a box that fits THROUGH your letterbox? No neither can we! A complete afternoon tea party in a box posted direct to you, ready for when you arrive home…. marvellous! (even if we do say so ourselves)
got all our props sorted. I wonder who’ll win the “best teaspoon” or “most props in the shot” competition. It’s not about the photos, it’s about the winning 😉 and it’s about patience….must not eat all the cakes, must wait for them to be photographed first. An afternoon tea party with all the trimmings out on display and no sampling=torture! Hoping the Simon’s (our wonderful photographers) have a kettle…. here at crumb.HQ we only have a stove top #oldschool #proud.
